Coughs and Sneezes are Dangerous Spreaders of Disease!

How Do Sneezes Work:

According to Lydia Bourouiba, PhD a professor in the Fluid Dynamics Dept at MIT there is more to a sneeze than we used to believe!

Here is a brief video from Science Friday of Lydia Bourouiba, explaining the behavior of droplets and their role in spreading infection:   Breakthrough: Connecting the Drops

Also here is a link to Lydia Bourouiba’s article “A Sneeze”  published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Remember to follow the Four Principles of  Hand Awareness  (particularly 2 and 3) and help stop the spread of disease.

  1. Wash your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating
  2. DO NOT cough into your hands
  3. DO NOT sneeze into your hands
  4. Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose, or mouth

FAQ about Flu vaccine:

If I get the flu vaccine does that prevent me from giving myself the flu?

NO, it does not.

Putting your fingers in your eyes, nose or mouth can give you the flu, and many other flu-like viruses. The vaccine is designed to help your immune system “”fight” the flu virus so your body is not overwhelmed.
